Cooloongup couple wins Peel volunteer award

EdConnect Australia has announced Terry and Liz Stevenson as the 2022 Alcoa Foundation Peel Volunteer of the Year Award winners.

Terry and Liz were selected from 110 volunteers who supported 988 students with mentoring and learning support services throughout Kwinana, Peel and the upper South West region in 2022.

“Many volunteers deserve recognition for mentoring and supporting students, and choosing winners was extremely challenging. That they have been nominated is a significant testament to their efforts,” says Gerri Clay, CEO EdConnect Australia.

Terry and Liz have volunteered at Cooloongup Primary School since their grandchildren attended around twenty years ago.

“Terry and Liz come to the school with such love. They support multiple students with mentoring; it’s really just about them connecting with students and having someone they can talk to.’ Says Cooloongup Primary School Deputy Principal Mark White.

The annual EdConnect Alcoa Foundation Peel Volunteer Award recognises and celebrates the outstanding commitment and passion of EdConnect Australia volunteers to WA school students.

Alcoa Senior Partnership Advisor Sally Fairnie, who attended the event, said, “Congratulations to Terry and Liz on this special recognition of your countless hours of volunteering over 20 years and for your continuous support for the students at Cooloongup Primary School. What a wonderful achievement.”

“It’s just really heart-warming when you see kids grow’ shares Liz.
